Gözde Korkmaz

Gözde Korkmaz - Koç University, Assistant Professor
After completing her BSc in Molecular Biology and Genetics at Istanbul Technical University, Gözde Korkmaz earned her PhD in 2012 from the Biological Sciences and Bioengineering Program at Sabancı University. She carried out her postdoctoral research in Reuven Agami’s laboratory at the Netherlands Cancer Institute. In 2020, she joined Koç University School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor and established her own research laboratory. A recipient of the TÜBİTAK 2232 International Leader Researchers Program fellowship, Dr. Korkmaz received the Science Academy’s Young Scientist Award (BAGEP) and the Turkish Academy of Sciences Outstanding Young Scientist Award (GEBİP) in 2021, and the Personalized Medicine Scientific Research Support Award within the Dr. Nejat F. Eczacıbaşı Medical Awards in 2023. Her research focuses on transcriptional regulation and epigenetic mechanisms in cancer development, drug resistance, and metastasis. In her lab, she integrates CRISPR-based functional screening approaches with next-generation sequencing to identify novel, cancer-specific therapeutic targets. Beyond research, Dr. Korkmaz is active in organizing academic events, public science outreach, and science communication, contributing to efforts that increase the visibility of women in STEM and promote scientific literacy and inclusivity.
